A mixture of 4-bromo-2-methoxybenzonitrile (0.424 g, 2.000 mmol), 5-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)nicotinaldehyde (0.466 g, 2.000 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (0.058 g, 0.050 mmol) and sodium carbonate (2M in water, 2.00 mL, 4.00 mmol) in DME (50 mL) was heated to 90° C. for 6 h. After filtration through a pad of dry Na2SO4 and concentration, the residue was purified by column and yielded a colorless solid (430 mg). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 4.04 (s, 3H), 6.99 (s, 1H), 7.27 (d, J=4.7 Hz, 1H), 7.71 (d, J=7.9 Hz, 1H), 8.34 (t, J=2 Hz, 1H), 9.07 (d, J=2.36 Hz, 1H), 9.12 (d, J=1.9 Hz, 1H), 10.22 (s, 1H).
