A mixture of 4-bromo-2-ethoxybenzonitrile (1.13 g, 5.00 mmol), 5-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)nicotinaldehyde (1.165 g, 5.00 mmol), sodium carbonate (5.00 mL, 10.00 mmol) and Pd(PPh3)4 (1.136 g, 0.125 mmol) in DME (20 mL) was heated to reflux for 6 h. After cooling to room temperature, filtration, drying over Na2SO4, concentration, a colorless solid was obtained. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.14 (d, J=1.5 Hz, 1H), 7.23 (dd, J=8, 1.5 Hz, 1H), 7.70 (d, J=8=Hz, 1H), 8.33 (t, J=2 Hz, 1H), 9.06 (d, J=2 Hz, 1H), 9.11 (d, J=2 Hz, 1H), 10.21 (s, 1H).
