Procedure

1-(6-Ethoxynaphthalen-2-yl)-1-(1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)-2-methyl-1-propanol (0.60 g) was dissolved in acetic acid (10 ml) and 10% palladium carbon (0.2 g) was added and the mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 2 h and at 60° C. for 3 h under a hydrogen atmosphere. The catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated to dryness. Recrystallization from THF-ethyl acetate gave the title compound (0.21 g) as a colorless crystalline powder.
