N-{6-[1-Hydroxy-2-methyl-1-(1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)propyl]naphthalen-2-yl}acetamide (11.5 g) and pyridine hydrochloride (390 mg) were dissolved in methanol (8 ml) and the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 2 h. After allowing to cool, the mixture was neutralized with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was collected by filtration and washed with ethanol. The filtrate was concentrated and the obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluate, dichloromethane:methanol =30:1→10:1) and recrystallized from ethyl acetate to give the title compound (5.52 g) as a pale-red powder.
