To a solution of methyl 3-[4-[2-(2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazin-4-yl)ethoxy]phenyl]-2-ethoxy propanoate (4.7 g, 12.2 mmol) obtained in example 2 in methanol (50 mL) was added aqueous 10% sodium hydroxide (28 mL). The mixture was stirred at 25° C. for 3h. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was acidified with 2N hydrochloric acid extracted with ethyl acetate (×100 mL). The combined ethyl acetate layers were washed with water (75 mL), brine (50 mL), dried (Na2SO4), filtered and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was chromatographed over silica gel using ethyl acetate to give the title compound (3.0 g, 66%) as a syrupy liquid.
