A mixture of 4-[5-(2,6-dichlorobenzyloxy)-2-formyl-indol-1-yl]butyronitrile (0.2 g, 0.52 mmol), from Example 9(b), K2CO3 (0.14 g, 1.03 mmol) and tosylmethyl isocyanide (0.11 g, 0.57 mmol) in MeOH (15 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 5 min followed by reflux for 3 h to give a clear yellow solution. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the resulting solid was partitioned between chloroform and water. The aqueous layer was washed with chloroform twice and the combined organic layers were washed with water, brine and dried over Na2SO4. After filtration, the yellow filtrate was concentrated to yield the desired oxazol (0.21 g, 95%) as a yellow oil. MS(ES) m/e 426.0 [M+H]+.
