A mixture of 1-benzyl-3,3-di-n-propyl-4-hydroxypiperidine (0.9 g, 3.27 mmole) and 20% palladium hydroxide (0.2 g) in methanol (20 ml) was stirred at ambient temperature in hydrogen atmosphere (1 atm.) for 8 hr. Catalyst was filtered off, washed with methanol, filtrate was concentrated to dryness to give 3,3-di-n-propyl-4-hydroxypiperidine as oil. Yield 0.5 g (84%), C12H23NO, m/z 186 (M+1).
