Procedure
Sodium borohydride (0.34 g, 0.89 mmol) was added in small portions to a solution of 1-(4-benzyloxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline (0.139 g, 0.44 mmol) in MeOH (10 ml) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 30 min, stirred at rt for 1 hr, then quenched by the dropwise addition of H2O (1.0 ml). The resulting mixture was concentrated in vacuo to remove the methanol, and the remaining aqueous layer was extracted with CHCl3 (4×10 ml). The combined extracts were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give 0.138 g (99% yield) of colorless oil.
