A mixture of 3-ethyl-N2-[(S)-1-phenylethyl]-L-norvalinamide (2.6 g, 10.5 mmol) and 5% Pd/C. (800 mg) was shaken for 24 h in a Parr apparatus under 3 atm of H2. The mixture was filtered through a plug of Celite and the solvent was removed in vacuo to give 3-ethyl-L-norvalinamide as a white solid (1.4 g, 93%), which was used in the next reaction without further purification. Mass Spectrum (+ESI): 145 (M+H)+.
