In a manner analogous to Example 1, (±)-(3RS,4aRS,6SR,8aSR)-3,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-3-hydroxymethyl-6-((4-methoxyphenyl)methyl)quinolin-2[1H]-one (prepared according to step a)) was reduced by heating at 100° C. in the presence of lithium borohydride solution in THF/toluene to give the title compound, mg. 282°-4° C. (HCl, hemihydrate salt).
