Procedure

A mixture of intermediate (10-a) (0.03 mol) in methanol saturated with ammonia (200 ml) was stirred at room temperature overnight. The precipitate was filtered off and washed with methanol. The product was used without further purification, yielding 6.6 g (97%) of (±)-3,4-dihydro-2H-naphtho[1,2-b]pyran-2-carboxamide (interm. 11-a).
