NaI (0.15972 g, 1.1256 mmol) and trimethylsilyl chloride (0.142 mL, 1.1256 mmol) were stirred in acetonitrile (50 mL). Tris(8-methylcarbonylthio-2,2,6,6-tetramethylbenzo-[1,2-d:4,5-d']bis(1,3)dioxole-4-yl)methanol (0.1286 g, 0.1407 mmol, Example 49) was added in solid form and the color of the solution became brownish. Na2S2 O4 (20 mL, sat.) was added after 60 minutes and the mixture was stirred 5 minutes before separation of the phases. The aqueous phase was extracted with diethyl ether (50 mL), and the combined organic phase was dried (MgSO4) and evaporated, yielding 0.105 g (0.1168 mmol, 83%) of the title compound.
