The final product of Example 3 above (0.170 g, 0.330 mmol, 1 eq) and 10% Pd/C (5 mg) catalyst were mixed in methanol (4.0 mL) under an atmosphere of hydrogen 1 hour. The catalyst was filtered and reaction mixture was concentrated under vacuum yielding 0.029 g of N5-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-ylmethyl)-N2,3-dihydroxy-4-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine-2,5-dicarboxamide (90% yield) as a white solid; 1H-NMR (400 MHz, MeOD): δ=8.176 (s, 1H), 6.93 (m, 3H), 5.95 (s, 2H), 4.77 (s, 2H), 4.50 (s, 2H); MS-ESI m/z 362 [MH]+.
