Reaction Steps

The product of example 5 (0.010 g, 0.019 mmol, 1 eq) and 10% Pd/C catalyst (5 mg) were stirred in 4.0 mL of methanol under an atmosphere of hydrogen for 1 hour. The catalyst was filtered and reaction mixture was concentrated under vacuum yielding 0.006 g of N2,3-dihydroxy-4-(hydroxymethyl)-N5-(4-methoxybenzyl)pyridine-2,5-dicarboxamide (85% yield) as a white solid; MS-ESI m/z 348 [MH]+.
