13,13-dimethyl-13H-indeno[1,2-b]anthracene (10 g, 0.034 mol) and N-bromosuccinimide (7.68 g, 0.034 mol) were dissolved in carbon tetrachloride (200 ml), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 8 hours at 60° C. After the reaction was terminated, the reaction solution was extracted with distilled water, and purified by column chromatography to give 11-bromo-13,13-dimethyl-13H-indeno[1,2-b]anthracene (9 g, yield=71%).
