5.81 g (33.0 mmol) of 4-cyclohexylphenol, 5.57 g (30.0 mmol) of 4-chloro-2,5-dimethylnitrobenzene and 6.22 g (45.0 mmol) of potassium carbonate are suspended in 30 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide and the suspension is stirred at 150° C. for 12 h. It is then poured into ice-water and the precipitate is isolated by filtration, washed repeatedly with hexane and dried under reduced pressure (12.1 g, purity 71.9%, yield 88.9%, log P (pH 2.3)=6.69).
