A solution of ethyl 7-(6-oxo-2,3-dip-tolyl-7,8-dihydropyrido[2,3-b]pyrazin-5(6H)-yl)heptanoate (550 mg, 1.133 mmol) in methanol (10 ml) was treated with 1M sodium hydroxide (3.40 ml, 3.40 mmol) and the resultant solution was stirred at 50° C. for 1 hour. The solution was cooled to room temperature and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was diluted with water, acidified to pH ˜2 with 1N HCl, giving a white solid which was extracted with DCM (×3). The extracts were dried (MgSO4) and evaporated under vacuum to afford the title compound as a white solid;
