A solution of (S)-tert-butyl 1-(1-(5-ethylpyrimidin-2-yl)piperidin-4-yl)-2-oxopyrrolidin-3-ylcarbamate (1 g, 2.6 mmol) in 50% TFA/CH2Cl2 (10 mL) was stirred at ambient temperature for 1 hour. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in CH2Cl2 (100 mL) and washed with 1N NaOH (100 mL) and brine. The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to yield (S)-3-amino-1-(1-(5-ethylpyrimidin-2-yl)piperidin-4-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one (0.75 g, 2.6 mmol, 100%)
