(S)-benzyl 1′-(5-ethylpyrimidin-2-yl)-2-oxo-1,4′-bipiperidin-3-ylcarbamate (275 mg, 0.629 mmol) was dissolved in 1:1 EtOH/EtOAc and 10% Pd/C (50 mg) was added, and the reaction was stirred under a balloon pressure of hydrogen for 1.5 hours. The reaction was filtered through celite and concentrated to afford crude (S)-3-amino-1′-(5-ethylpyrimidin-2-yl)-1,4′-bipiperidin-2-one (220 mg, 0.725 mmol, 115% yield) as an oil.
