N-Isopropylpiperazine (1.8 mL, 12.7 mmol, 2 equiv) is added to a cold (5° C.) mixture of 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine (1 g, 6.3 mmol) in DCM (5 mL). The reaction mixture is allowed to warm to RT, stirred for 16 h, diluted with DCM/H2O and extracted with DCM. The organic phase is washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated to provide the title compound as a yellow solid: ES-MS: 251.2 [MH]+; tR=2.20 min (system 1).
