Procedure

To a solution of 3-{3-[3-(3-bromo-benzyl)-2-imino-2,3-dihydro-benzoimidazol-1-yl]-propoxy}-benzoic acid methyl ester (0.50 g, 0.98 mmol) in EtOH (10 ml) at rt is added NaOH (71 mg, 1.77 mmol). The reaction was stirred until the complete consumption of starting material was observed by TLC. After this time, the mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and then the material that remained was suspended in EtOAc and H2O. The suspension was filtered and the collected solid was dried to provide 3-{3-[3-(3-bromo-benzyl)-2-imino-2,3-dihydro-benzoimidazol-1-yl]-propoxy}-benzoic acid sodium salt (0.42 g, 85%). HPLC-MS 480, 482 [M+1]+.
