tert-Butyl 2-methyl-2-[5-(3-methyl-5-{[4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidin-2-yl]amino}-phenyl)-1,3-thiazol-2-yl]propanoate (400 mg, 0.836 mmol) was taken up in dioxane (8 mL) before adding HCl (4 M in dioxane, 16 mL, 64.0 mmol). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 4 d (became yellow suspension over time). The yellow suspension was diluted with Et2O and filtered to isolate 2-methyl-2-[5-(3-methyl-5-{[4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidin-2-yl]amino}phenyl)-1,3-thiazol-2-yl]propanoic acid (HCl salt, 375 mg, 98%) as a yellow solid. MS ESI: [M+H]+ m/z 423.0.
