Reaction Steps

2-(2-Ethoxy-5-morpholinoacetylphenyl)-8-methylquinazolin-4(3H)-one (Example 16; 0.2 g, 0.00049 mol) was suspended in stirred ethanol (30 ml) and the mixture treated with sodium borohydride (0.0018 g, 0.00049 mol). After 18 hours at room temperature, the solvent was evaporated under vacuum. The residue was suspended in saturated aqueous sodium carbonate solution (30 ml) and the suspension extracted with ethyl acetate (3×20 ml). The extracts were combined, dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated under vacuum, then the residue crystallized from ethyl acetate-hexane to give the title compound as colorless plates (0.14 g, 70%), m.p. 145-147° C.
