Solid KOH (0.090 g, 1.4 mmol) was added to a solution of the ester from Step A (0.132 g, 0.38 mmol) in EtOH (5 mL). After stirring at ambient temperature for 48 hr, the reaction mixture was partitioned between EtOAc (50 mL) and H2O (100 mL), the aqueous layer acidified, then extracted with EtOAc (2×100 mL), the organic layer washed with H2O (50 mL), dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated to dryness to give the title compound. Mp 89-91° C. MS 318.
