5.0 g (0.0115 mole) of N-ethyl-2-(3-bromo-2,6-diethoxybenzamidomethyl)pyrrolidine hydrochloride is dissolved in 125 ml of methylene chloride. 1.25 ml (0.013 mole) of boron tribromide is added. The mixture is left for two hours at room temperature. It is then washed with 2M NH3 and with water. The organic phase is dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated. The oily base obtained crystallizes after treatment with petroleum ether. The precipitate is filtered off and is recrystallized from ethanol. M.p. 83°-83.5° C. Yield 2.4 g (56%).
