Reaction Steps

To a solution of 5-(dimethylamino)-3-oxopentanenitrile (4.9 g) in ethanol (20 mL) at ambient temperature was added hydrazine monohydrate (1.72 mL, 35.5 mmol) and the reaction mixture was heated to 70° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was then filtered and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give 3.81 g of 3-(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl)-1H-pyrazol-5-amine (65% over 2 steps) which was carried on without further purification. 1H-NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 12.60 (bs, 1H), 6.52 (bs, 2H), 6.1 (s, 1H), 2.69 (m, 2H), 2.65 (m, 2H), 2.27 (s, 6H).
