Procedure
Next, 4-(2-bromoethyl)naphthalenesulfonic acid (10 g) was slowly added dropwise to a 1-mol/L aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (100 mL), and the whole was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. After that, the resultant was refluxed for 6 hours, and was then subjected to a dehydrobromination reaction, whereby sodium 4-ethenylnaphthalenesulfonate was obtained.
