To a solution of 8 (10 gm, 6.33 mmol) in methylene chloride (25 ml) was added pyridinium chlorochromate (1.64 gm, 7.6 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was passed through a silica column and eluted by methylene chloride to afford a pure hydroxy-aldehyde, 9 (0.7 gms).
