Procedure

NaNO2 (174 mg, 2.52 mmol) was added to a solution of crude 5-(4-amino-3-methylphenyl)-2-bromofuro[3,2-c]pyridin-4(5H)-one (800 mg, 2.52 mmol) in 5:1 AcOH/H2O (24 mL) and the resulting solution was stirred at 25° C. for 14 h. The solution was concentrated under reduced pressure. Flash chromatography on silica gel (49:1 CH2Cl2/MeOH) afforded the title compound (373 mg, 44%) as a yellow solid: 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 13.30-13.25 (br s, 1H, NH), 8.16 (s, 1H), 7.81 (d, J=1.8 Hz, 1H), 7.69 (d, J=7.5 Hz, 1H), 7.64 (d, J=8.7 Hz, 1H), 7.35 (dd, J=8.7, 1.8 Hz, 1H), 7.19 (d, J=0.6 Hz, 1H), 6.85 (dd, J=7.5, 0.6 Hz, 1H).
