Diethylaminosulfur trifluoride (0.1 mL, 0.8 mmol) was added to an ambient temperature solution of 4-(2,2-dimethylpropyl)-2-[1-hydroxy-2-(4-pyridin-2-ylphenyl)ethyl]-N,N-dimethyl-1H-imidazole-1-sulfonamide (for synthesis see Example 1) (71 mg, 0.16 mmol) in methylene chloride (5 mL). After stirring at ambient temperature overnight, the reaction mixture was quenched with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate and extracted with methylene chloride. The combined organic extracts were dried (magnesium sulfate) and concentrated in vacuo. Chromatography over silica eluting with 0-50% ethyl acetate/hexane afforded 4-(2,2-dimethylpropyl)-2-[1-fluoro-2-(4-pyridin-2-ylphenyl)ethyl]-N,N-dimethyl-1H-imidazole-1-sulfonamide.
