Reaction Steps
To a solution of 3-[l -(1-methoxy-ethyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]-4-(1-methyl-6-nitro-1H-indol-3-yl)-pyrrole-2,5-dione (3.75 gm) (from step c) above) in 100 mL of THF was added 2 N HCl (75 mL). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours, and poured into EtOAc and brine. The layers were separated, and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The combined EtOAc layers were dried over magnesium sulfate, and evaporated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography using EtOAc/hexanes to give 1.1 gm (Yield 33%) of 3-[1-(1-hydroxy-ethyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]-4-(1-methyl-6-nitro-1H-indol-3-yl)-pyrrole-2,5-dione.
