1-Isopropyl-piperazine (1.8 mL, 12.7 mmol, 2 equiv) was added to a cold (5° C.) solution of 2-chloro-5-nitropyrimidine (1 g, 6.3 mmol,) in DCM (5 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred for 20 min at 5° C. and then diluted with DCM and H2O. The aqueous layer was separated and extracted with DCM. The organic phase was washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated to provide 1.41 g of the title compound as a beige solid: ESI-MS: 252.2 [M+H]+; tR=1.89 min.
