Procedure

4-Methyl-1,1,3-trioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1λ6-benzo[1,2,4]thiadiazine-7-carboxylic acid methyl ester (10.0 g, Example 1, Step 1) was dissolved in 200 ML of methanol with 75 mL of 1M NaOH. Stirred for 4 hours and concentrated in vacuo to remove the methanol. The residue was acidified with concentrated HCl, filtered, and washed with water. Air dried on the vacuum filter to give 9.5 g of the title compound as a tan solid. 1H-NMR (DMSO-d6); δ 8.04 (s, 1H), 7.94 (dd, 1H), and 7.17 (d, 1H) ppm. MS: M+−1=255.1 Da
