Reaction Steps
A mixture of 3-(2-pyridyl)-5-(5-bromo-2-methoxyphenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole (66.4 mg, 0.2 mmol), zinc cyanide (35.1 mg, 0.3 mmol), and tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium (Pd(PPh3)4, 23.1 mg, 0.02 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (2 mL) was heated under an argon atmosphere at 80° C. for 16 hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture was poured into water and the crude product extracted with dichloromethane. Silica gel chromatography using 30% ethyl acetate in hexane afforded 6.9 mg (12%) of 3-(2-pyridyl)-5-(5-cyano-2-methoxyphenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole.
