In a similar fashion, 3-(2-pyridyl)-5-(5-bromo-pyrid-3-yl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole (152 mg, 0.5 mmol), 3-furylboronic acid (111.9 mg, 1.0 mmole) and Pd(PPh3)4 (57.8 mg, 0.05 mmole) in a solution of 2M sodium carbonate (3 mL) and ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (3 mL) was heated overnight at 105° C. Standard work up afforded 47 mg (32%) of 3-(2-pyridyl)-5-[5-(3-furyl)-pyrid-3-yl ]-1,2,4-oxadiazole.
