Reaction Steps
3-Amino-4-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)pyrazole and ethyl acetoacetate (2 equivalents) were dissolved in dioxane and heated under reflux overnight. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and diluted with ethyl acetate. An off-white solid formed after 2 days standing was collected by vacuum filtration, yielding 3-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-5-methyl-7-hydroxypyrazolo[2,3-a]pyrimidine (intermediate 1).
