A cool solution of trifluoroacetyl chloride (3.5 g, 26.5 mmol) in toluene was slowly added to a solution of N4-[5-(methylthio)pentyl]quinoline-3,4-diamine (6 g, 23.1 mmol) in a mixture of toluene and pyridine. A heavy yellow precipitate formed. The reaction mixture was stirred over the weekend and then concentrated under reduced pressure to provide 13.2 g of crude 2,2,2-trifluoro-N-(4-{[5-(methylthio)pentyl]amino}quinolin-3-yl)acetamide.
