The diboron ester of glucoheptonic acid was prepared as follows: Approximately 124 grams (2 mols) of boric acid and 248 grams (1 mol) of sodium glucoheptonate were charged to an esterification vessel containing about 600 milliliters of water as a solvent. With stirring, the temperature was maintained at about 25° C. for approximately 30 minutes. The mixture was thereafter diluted to a final volume of one liter with additional water.
