Procedure
A mixture of 30 parts of (2H-1,4-benzothiazin-3(4H)-ylidene)(4-chlorophenyl)acetonitrile, 180 parts concentrated sulfuric acid and 18 parts water is stirred at room temperature for 11/2 hours. The mixture is cooled to 0°-5° and diluted with 1 to 2 volumes of water which results in a crystalline solid which is filtered, dried and crystallized from methanol to afford crystalline 2-(2H-1,4-benzothiazin-3(4H)-ylidene)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)acetamide melting at about 188°-191°.
