Sodium 7-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetamido]-3-cephem-4-carboxylate (syn isomer, 15 g.) was dissolved in water (13 ml.) at 35° to 45° C. under stirring. Warmed ethanol (52 ml., 30° C.) was added dropwise to the stirred solution, and stirred at the same temperature for 5 minutes and then at room temperature for 2 hours. The precipitates were collected by filtration, washed with ethanol and dried under reduced pressure to give plates of sodium 7-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetamido]-3-cephem-4-carboxylate dihydrate (syn isomer, 13.45 g.).
