3 g of methyl-3-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-carbazate were dissolved in 40 ml of methylene chloride (CH2Cl2). While stirring at room temperature, 1.7 g of methoxyacetyl chloride were gradually dropped into the solution. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. It was then washed with 20 ml of H2O, 30 ml of a solution of NaHCO3 at 5% and 30 ml of H2O. It was anhydrified on anhydrous Na2SO4 and the solvent was removed by evaporation.
