Procedure

A mixture of 2.8 g. of 3-carbobenzoxy-2,3,4,4a-Tetrahydro-8-(2,2,2-trifluoroacetamido)-1H-pyrazino[1,2-a] quinoxalin-5(6H)-one, 0.5 g. sodium hydroxide and 200 ml. of water is boiled for 15 minutes, then cooled. The mixture is then extracted with methylene chloride. The organic portion is then extracted with dilute hydrochloric acid. The aqueous acid phase is then basified with dilute sodium hydroxide and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic phase is dried and concentrated to give 1.6 g. of pale yellow solid product, m.p. 130°-135°.
