To a 350 mg (1.50 mmol) sample of CBZ-L-prolinal, from step 23b above, dissolved in 5 mL of methylene chloride was added 576 mg of 1-triphenylphosphoranylidene-2-propanone (Aldrich, 1.81 mmol). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 45 min, then heated at reflux for 1.3 hr. The solution was cooled, and a precipitate formed. The mixture was extracted with methylene chloride (3×10 mL). The combined organics were washed with brine and dried over MgSO4. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel, eluting with 25-35% ether in hexane, The title compound was isolated by removal of solvent (279 mg). Anal.
