Reaction Steps
Heat at reflux 4 gm. (0.01 mole) of cyanomethyl-5-(triphenylmethyl)picolinate and 2 ml. triethylamine in 50 ml. methanol for 4hr. Remove methanol under reduced pressure. Triturate solid residue with water and recrystallize from ethylacetate - isopropyl ether, to obtain the product of this example, m.p. 160°-164°.
