The dioxime from Step 2 (20 g) is dissolved in ethyl alcohol saturated with ammonia gas (220 ml) and Raney nickel W-6 (2 g) added. The mixture is subjected to 500 psi hydrogen pressure and heated at 90° for four hours. The catalyst is removed by filtration and the solvent is removed by distillation to yield 15.5 g (83% of theory) of pale yellow crystals mp 118°-119°. Calculated for C29H30N2O2 : C, 79.42%; H, 6.90%; N, 6.39%. Found: C, 79.14% H, 6.57%; N, 6.89%.
