2,8-Bis(3-methylbenzoyl)dibenzofuran is prepared according to the procedure of Step 1, Example 1. Dibenzofuran(42 g, 0.25 mole), m-toluoyl chloride (82 g, 0.53 mole), and anhydrous aluminum chloride (73 g, 0.55 mole) are reacted in carbon disulfide (250 ml) for 24 hours at 20°. The desired compound is obtained after recrystallization of the crude product from toluene, yield 22 g (23% of theory), mp 180°-181°. Calculated for C28H20O3 : C, 83.15%; H, 4.98%. Found: C, 83.21%; H, 5.08%.
