Reaction Steps

3-n-Butoxyisothiazole (7.2 g, 0.046 mol) and 8 ml of methyl fluorosulfonate were heated to 70° for 1 hr. After cooling, the solid was washed with ether and dried to yield 8.7 g of 3-n-butoxy-2-methylisothiazolium fluorosulfonate a low melting solid. Spectral data (NMR & IR) were consistent with the assigned structure.
