Reaction Steps
3-n-Octoxyisothiazole (5.0 g, 0.023 mol) and 6 ml of methylfluorosulfonate were heated to 70° for 1 hr. After cooling, the solid was washed with ether to yield 6.4 g of 2-methyl-3-n-octyloxyisothiazolium fluorosulfonate, mp 39°-41°. Spectral data (NMR & IR) were consistent with the assigned structure.
