A solution of the ester (6.2 g) in 0.5N-sodium hydroxide solution (80 ml) was allowed to stand at room temperature for 21/2 hours after which the solution was washed with ether, the aqueous layer was acidified with 2N-hydrochloric acid, and the precipitated oil was extracted with ether. The washed and dried ether extract was evaporated to give 5-(6-carboxyhexyl)-1-(3-(tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy) octyl)hydantoin as a yellow oil.
