Procedure
A solution of 1α-acetoxy-5,7-cholestadiene (11, R is acetyl, 8.3 mg) and 5% methanolic potassium hydroxide (10 ml) was allowed to stand at room temperature under an atmosphere of nitrogen overnight. Work-up of the reaction mixture in the usual way gave 1α-hydroxy-5,7-cholestadiene.
